BY MARINA GRYZUN ON THE WALL
OF HER CELL
p July 28, 1943
I, Y.C.L. girl Marina Gryzun, was shot by the Germans on July 28, 1943. Friends and comrades, avenge me and all those who have died in German hands!
Marina Gryzun had lived all her life on the Lenin Collective Farm in the village of Misailovka near Kiev. During the nazi occupation she hid and nursed three Red Army men who had remained behind the lines. Together with other Y.C.L. members she wrote leaflets calling on everyone to fight the invaders, and stuck them on house walls. She carried on agitation among the local inhabitants. In June 1943, Marina was arrested and shut up in a Gestapo cell in Boguslav. The Germans cruelly tortured her. The reprisal against her was carried into effect on July 28. The words above were inscribed in blood on the cell wall.
